ITINERARY

October 13: Depart the USA

Depart the USA on your flight to Reykjavik.

October 14: Arrive in Iceland

Arrive in Iceland. Your local guide will await you at the airport and lead you to your private coach. Only 10 minutes away is the first stop in Iceland, where you will visit the Viking World Museum and have the opportunity to see the home of the Viking Ship Íslendingur (the Icelander). Built in 1996, Icelander is a replica of the famous Gokstad ship, a remarkable archaeological find of an almost completely intact Viking ship excavated in Norway in 1882. Breakfast is served. Explore the Reykjanes Peninsula further. The group will be dropped off at the hotel. If the rooms are not ready for check-in, the luggage will be stored. Luggage porterage is included. Enjoy a two-course group lunch at a downtown restaurant. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. In the evening, have a three-course welcome dinner close to your hotel. (B/L/D)

October 15: Reykjavik Walking City Tour, Blue Lagoon, and Northern Lights Hunt

Breakfast at your hotel. This tour takes you on foot around the heart of Reykjavik with an English-speaking Icelander. Learn about the history of Iceland and the evolution of Reykjavik as well as learn about elves, Vikings, food, nightlife, music, economic aspects, and political affairs. The guide will point out the places you must see in Reykjavik. Break for lunch on your own. After lunch, depart to the Blue Lagoon. Imagine relaxing in a blend of seawater and geothermally heated water, which is rich in silica, minerals, and algae, surrounded by a lunar lava landscape. This is a real treat for the mind, body, and soul. Plus, the iconic white silica mud face mask is free to all lagoon guests. In the evening, there will be a group dinner near the hotel. After dinner, we will go on the hunt for the Northern Lights, tops on the bucket lists of travelers all over the globe. Join a thrilling hunt from Reykjavik to spot this ghostly glow in the dark sky away from the city’s artificial lights into the deep darkness of the countryside. Our guides keep a close eye on weather conditions to find the perfect spot to admire the Aurora Borealis. Your encounter with these ephemeral lights will make for a magical night! Your guide will take free photos of you and the aurora for your travel album, so you’ll always have a reminder of this dazzling moment! (B/D)

Note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and it is important that the group is aware of the fact that the weather conditions are something one cannot count on.

October 16: Three-Day South Coast Highlights Tour

Breakfast will be at your hotel. You’ll drive towards the slowly rising sun on the way to your first stop, the very unusual Seljalandsfoss waterfall. You can actually walk behind the gracefully falling cascade. The next highlight is another waterfall, Skógafoss, located at the foot of a very famous volcano, Eyjafjallajökull. On a clear day, you will also get a great view of another volcano mountain glacier, Mýrdalsjökull. As you continue, you’ll come to Reynisfjara, a black beach where some fantastic sights, such as the picturesque basalt column formations and the famous Reynisdrangar peaks, will greet you. You will drive through the charming small town of Vík on your way to your accommodation. In Hvolsvöllur, the group will explore the Lava Centre exhibition which will give an excellent insight into the volcanic geology in the area and Iceland (included). There will be a two-course lunch en route. Dinner and overnight will be at your hotel. (B/L/D)

October 17: Two-Day South Coast Highlights Tour

Breakfast will be at your hotel. Today, you will get to know the glacier, venturing into the sparkling, blue/white world of an ice cave with a qualified guide and visiting the extraordinary glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón. Splendid icebergs of amazing shapes, some incredibly large, have calved off the receding Breiðamerkurjökull glacier on their stately journeys to the Atlantic Ocean. Next, you go into the glacier with a qualified guide! Ice caves are fascinating. New caves are formed each winter by the melt/freeze cycle of the glacier. They are always changing, both from year to year and within each winter. The journey into an ice cave will give photographers the most amazing opportunity to capture the shimmering blue light that passes through the glacial ice. Surprisingly deep shades of jewel blue will surround you. After visiting the ice cave, you will head in the west direction again. You will stop at Skaftafell Nature Reserve in Vatnajökull National Park, a green area amid amazingly jagged mountains and glacier-topped peaks. The splendid scenery of Skaftafell is certain to be a highlight of your tour. There will be a two-course lunch en route. Dinner and overnight will be at your hotel. (B/L/D)

October 18: Golden Circle – Reykjavík

Breakfast will be at your hotel. After a highlights tour of Reykjavik, you will then drive off to the famous Golden Circle on a Super Jeep, which will be your ride for the day. This tour allows visitors to get in touch with some of Iceland’s most famous and exciting natural phenomena. Your first stop for the day will be at Þingvellir National Park, 40 minutes east of the city. Þingvellir is one of Iceland’s most historical sites, as it was here that Iceland’s first parliament was. You will then head to the world-renowned geothermal area around Geysir hot spring, where you can witness gurgling bubbling water burst up to 25 meters high. The area is covered in numerous hot springs, some active, others not. Strokkur is now the main number of the show, as it bursts every 4 to 10 minutes. There will be a buffet lunch at a Geysir restaurant. From Geysir, you will continue to Gullfoss, “the Golden waterfall”, a great sight and a perfect photo spot with water rushing down three steps of lava layers exhibiting breathtaking power and grandeur. Next up, you kick the action into higher gear and go for a one-hour snowmobiling ride on Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier. The Super Jeep has no problem reaching the glacier camp on Langjökull, and the views whilst getting there are amazing. Your snowmobile guides will welcome you and give you a briefing and proper gear for the snowmobiling. Once you are all suited up, there is nothing left to do but step onto your snowmobile and follow your guide on an hour-long glacier expedition. After the ride of a lifetime, you will join us again at the glacier camp before jumping into the Super Jeep again and starting your scenic drive back to Reykjavík. You will keep an eye out for the Northern Lights on your way back to the city and will make a short stop if conditions allow for it. Dinner is on your own. (B/L)

October 19: Free Day in Reykjavik

Breakfast will be at your hotel. Today is on your own or add a new optional activity to your experience in Iceland. There will be a farewell dinner close to the hotel. (B/D)

October 20: Departure Without a Guide

Breakfast will be at your hotel. Depending on your flight, you may have time to explore Reykjavik or do some shopping before leaving Iceland. Depart to the airport in your private coach without a guide. (B)
