Gastown is Vancouver's oldest neighborhood and, in the center of Gastown is The Pourhouse, a bar that designs drinks that harken back to the golden age of the cocktail.
I was feeling like something savouy when I got to there and requested a Caesar – a specialty in Canada. It was then explained to me that the bar doesn't serve it as it doesn't fall into that post-prohibition, heyday of the cocktail category.
But our server was incredible accommodating non-the-less. He asked many questions about my tastes. He asked about allergies and preferences then made his recommendation. For me it was the Pepperlicious, the creation of Brian Grant, one of the bartenders at The Pourhouse.
An Unusual Vodka Recipe
When I come across such a delight, I always ask for the recipe. I don't always get it but this time I did. (You can get a couple of tequila recipes I picked up in Mexico here. ) Here's how to make the Pepperlicious.
2 oz. Vodka (tequilla is an option)
1/2 red bell pepper muddled. Extract the juice.
1/2 oz. Couintreau
1/2 oz. lime juice
2 dashes tobasco sauce
1 lime wheel
