Sharilyn will speak to how her experiences in disaster response, humanitarian work, and social justice have honed her perspectives on travel and its role in creating world citizens and her work supporting sustainable livelihoods. She’ll elaborate on how our travel decisions can benefit the planet and the communities we visit, and what to consider to ensure we are aligning our personal values with responsible, conscious travel.
Sharilyn Amy is co-owner of Océano Patagonia, an award-winning eco-hotel in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site and biosphere reserve in Patagonia, Argentina. She started her communications career in oil and gas before transitioning to the Red Cross to manage disaster response communications, publicity and government relations strategies around the globe. She then founded a research and facilitation consultancy specializing in social enterprise. In 2012, Sharilyn moved to Argentina where, in addition to developing her sustainable tourism initiative, she co-created @ElementPatagonia, a venture that connects rural and traditional artisans to broader markets. Sharilyn holds an MBA and is a recipient of the Women of Inspiration – Humanitarian award in Canada.
