Falling in Love with Italy: Lombardy

A typical street scene in Milan.

Oh, Italy.

I have wanted to meet you for more years than I care to count. And though our encounter was brief, I feel that we really connected. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say…I think I love you.

I finally fulfilled one of my solo travel dreams on a trip to Lombardy in September. I was based in Milan, which was great, but it also turned out to be a perfect spot to be situated for day trips outside the city. Coming from Canada, it was amazing to have access to so many trains, which made travel around the Lombardy region quick and easy.

I will have more stories from my trip in the coming months, but first, here is a taste of Lombardy, in photos.

It's important to have gelato every day. Not necessarily this much, but when it's your entire dinner…

At the Santa Croce Flower Festival on Monte Isola. Two years of work goes into making thousands of paper flowers.

I had to try the pizza at Gino Sorbillo – it was worth the wait!

Tasting the stunning wines at Berlucchi.

Banco d'Italia. It was hard to know where to look in Milan-almost every building was gorgeous.

I can tell you that the little pot of rosemary on my window does not look like this. Wow.

In the olive grove at Frantoio Montecroce.
