You’d think it would be easy!
And it is. But there is also a trick to floating in the Dead Sea and it has to do with how you begin.
In a typical ocean, lake or river, I enter the water facing forward. I slide in with one smooth breaststroke and then, maybe, roll over onto my back to enjoy the air, the sun and the buoyancy.
But this does not work in the Dead Sea. There, you are so buoyant that, should you go in on your stomach, it’s very difficult to turn over. Your legs and shoulders rise up so high that your back is arched at an uncomfortable angle. And the force is so great that it’s hard to counter.
So, the technique is to enter backwards. Slide in as if you are sitting down and then relax. You will float. Without any effort, even those who tend to sink like a stone will float. Float and enjoy a place so magical that it has been shortlisted as one of the New7Wonder of Nature.
