Reasons to Visit Amman
I visited Jordan to take part in a 3-day charity trek but stayed on by myself in Amman afterwards.
If you go, I would recommend that you visit Petra but also take time to visit Jerash and some other places in the vicinity. I did an organised day tour through my hostel that included the ancient city of Jerash, known for its Roman ruins; Ajloun Castle, a 12th-Century Islamic castle located high on a hilltop in northwestern Jordan; and Umm Quais, about 100 km north of Jordan, which has many ruins and a great view of the surrounding landscape, including the Sea of Galilee.
Amman itself is worth exploring as well. The Amman Citadel, a historical site located on a hilltop in the center of the city's downtown area has great views, in addition to the Temple of Hercules, a Byzantine Church, and Umayyad Palace.
I stayed at the Jordan Tower Hotel in a private room. It's in a very convenient, central location in downtown Amman. I ate twice at Wild Jordan & also took advantage of street food vendors while I was there.
