We are pleased to present a new Solo Travel Destination Post from Nick, a member of the Solo Travel Society on Facebook. Nick lives in Chile and submitted the following report about Atacama. Do you have a solo travel destination that you would like to recommend? Submit your description here, along with a few photos, and share it with fellow travelers!
Solo travel rating: 2 (1 is easiest, 3 is most difficult. Please see chart below.)
Languages spoken: Chilean Spanish, English
Reasons to go: After traveling/working in South America for 1.5 years and studying in Spain for a year, I can say that Atacama is the most amazing place I have seen in my 24 years of life.
It has amazing landscapes and not too many tourists. For anyone on a South American trip, you are guaranteed to capture the most beautiful and unique pictures as it is almost like being on Mars.
Even my mom, who is a 53-year-old Chinese woman who hates dirt, hiking, and anything outdoorsy, absolutely loved it when she traveled there. Pretty much enough said! 🙂
You can find tickets for less than $100 to travel there from Santiago, making it an inexpensive add-on to any trip.
