Reasons to Visit Grenada
Grenada is an island of natural beauty. From the soft white sand to the blue sea, from the lush green rainforest to the ubiquitous deep brown nutmeg shells, from the vibrant red and pink and yellow flowers to the brilliant sunshine, intense color is everywhere you look.
It is quite easy and inexpensive to travel around Grenada. The public transportation system consists of buses (vans, really) which cover many parts of the island at very low cost, generally less than US$5. You can also hire a taxi or rent a car, but driving on the narrow, winding, twisty roads requires special skills and nerves of steel.
Grenada feels very safe, and has quite a low crime rate. Locals and visitors alike stroll along the streets at night, taking in the scented night air. Known as the Spice Island, Grenada is one of the largest producers of nutmeg in the world. Visit one of the spice gardens to see how cinnamon, cocoa, vanilla or bay leaves grow. Be sure to taste the local chocolate, and visit the Nutmeg Processing Station in Gouyave.
Whether swimming in the ocean, hiking in the rainforest, visiting the stunning waterfalls, shopping in the capital of St. George’s or enjoying a meal of fresh conch, soursop juice and pistachio ice cream on the beach, you will be delighted by the beauty of Grenada and the warmth of its people.
