Reasons to Visit Hannover

When I first arrived in Hannover, I stayed at Central Kaiser-Hof. When I decided to stay longer, I moved to the Grand Hotel Mussman. Both hotels are situated right outside the main train station and are within walking distance of almost everything worth seeing.

If you don't feel like a lot of walking, the transit system is easy to use. Tickets are easily purchased from machines. The tourist office is also near the train station and sells transit tickets as well as tickets for attractions and tours. You can purchase a small book called The Red Thread for €3. It is a guide to a red line in the pavement one follows to see 36 sights, churches, museums, etc., in the city. The extra tour in the book has 6 sights.

The Hannover Zoo is fabulous and worth the €25 entrance fee. Be prepared to spend an entire day with chances to rest at several food spots.

Herrenhausen Gartens is also a full day visit, and the admission fee is €8.

The Galeria Kaufhof and Karstedt department stores in the pedestrian precinct have upscale cafeterias with good choices for snacks or full meals. I especially like the salad bar, both hot and cold. There are lots of fast food choices everywhere. There were 2 grocery stores nearby and the Galeria has a food hall.
