Solo travel rating: 2 (1 is easiest, 4 is most difficult. Please see chart below)
Languages spoken: Italian
Reasons to go: The capital of Sicily is a wonderful tangle of narrow streets and wonderful old buildings. It is a smaller city with the same street energy of Naples. The outdoor markets are selling everything you could want on the street.
The Hammam, a Turkish bath in Palermo, is a great respite when you need a break. There are also wonderful restaurants, and particularly great seafood closer to the docks.
Palermo is smaller, shabbier, and the sights can be done in a day or two, but I loved the energy and the people-watching. If you like wandering in a city were people actually live, not just visiting tourist sites. you will enjoy Palermo.
