Reasons to Visit Wengen, Switzerland
Wengen is a village in the Bernese Oberland in the canton of Bern, located in central Switzerland. It is situated at an elevation of 1,274 m above sea level. I found Wengen to be akin to a fairy tale or a Disney movie in appearance. The pictures you will take will not do it justice.
The beautiful snow-capped mountains, lush green scenery, and quiet fresh air are a few reasons this place is breathtaking.
Even if you're not into hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter, it's wonderful to just wander around, up and down hills, or sit on a balcony taking it all in. Wengen's beauty will stay with you for a lifetime.
My recommendation is to stay at Hotel Alpenrose and request a mountain view room at the front of the hotel. Make sure you eat there too! Their healthy and delicious five-course dinner consumed in the large dining room that faces the mountain was unreal and the buffet breakfasts made me want to get up earlier. Play some mini golf in the Swiss Alps while learning about Switzerland's Olympic history. Then make sure you finish it off with a cold beverage and some fondue (of course).
If you're game, take a hike around the area. You'll encounter beautiful cows and their authentic cowbells grazing in pastures and tiny original Swiss homes with their unique charm. You can even just hang out around the train station and take in the quiet, natural beauty and stunning landscape.
