Ackselhaus & Blue Home

I have stayed in a lot of hotels, and Ackselhaus may be the one I love the most. Each of the the themed rooms is named after a different city. I stayed in the Kairo room. I fell asleep after a long soak in the huge clawfoot tub, and awoke to white curtains blowing in the summer breeze next to orchids growing out of the top of an antique icebox. The staff were wonderful and very knowledgeable about the area, offering restaurant recommendations, drawing maps, teaching me about the transit system, and making me feel completely safe and at home. Ideal for a solo traveler.

Cosy place Corinna Bornhorst

Very kind host who is also a greeter within the Global Greeter Network. Her tiny house is an Oasis of peace, quiet, stories, salad (in the garden), strawberries in summer and she shares her treasure house/kitchen/sheltered terrace kindly with travelers from all over the world. Mannheim is a University city, close to Heidelberg, and the Alsace with a rich culture of music.

Hotel Deutsche Eiche

The location of this small hotel is fantastic. It's in a community just a few blocks from the very center of Munich. They have smoking floors so if you don't want that it's important to specify non-smoking floor. They have single rooms. This hotel is popular with LGBQT travelers.

Kangaroo Stop Hostel

Kangaroo Stop Hostel is nicely located especially if you're arriving via train. It's just a 5-minute walk to Dresden Neustadt, and the bus station is also nearby, as are grocery stores, a drugstore and other commercial establishments. The historical downtown is just a 10-15 minute walk away. Breakfast is not free, but you can get food for free anyway. There's a shelf where departing guests leave their food behind. It's always overflowing with bread, cheese, and other foodstuffs.

Park Hyatt Hamburg Hotel

The Apples Bar here is well suited for a solo traveler I think. The bartenders are welcoming and talkative, and there is a generally social atmosphere, especially right by the bar. And of course, a luxurious hotel like this, is in my opinion, just as suited for some solo high-quality relaxation as it is for people traveling as a couple or in groups.

Die Wohngemeinschaft, Cologne, Germany

The city of Koln is not very big and not many people I know have visited it but it has some amazing places to discover and actually this hostel was one of the best I’ve ever been to. First - the rooms are beautiful. Everything is not just clean but also decorated to make you feel you are in a luxury place even if you are paying for just a hostel. Second – the staff is really great, they even made the effort to speak to me in Spanish. Third - the place has a bar downstairs were many local young people gather to drink a beer or just to hang out... if you travel alone it’s nice to be around people and if you are lucky as I was you may get invited to join and have a drink with them.

Wombats Hostel Munich

The Wombats Hostel is within walking distance of the Munich Hauptbahnhof (the main train station) and also within walking distance of the Hofbrauhaus (the beer hall). There are a lot of reasons to love this hostel. Here are a few: free linen (they ask you not to use your own sleeping bag to prevent bed bugs), your access key also opens your locker (no need for locks), the on-site bar (you’ll get a free drink voucher on check in), en suite bathrooms and the cheap all-you-can eat basic breakfast. In addition, the rooms, bathrooms and corridors are clean. The rooms themselves are comfortable (big enough considering I opted for the 6 sleeper). And the staff are friendly and willing to help. Power outlets are located conveniently on a little ledge next to each bed. And the rooms are all non-smoking. One small negative note - lockers are a bit on the small side. I couldn’t get my big suitcase into it.

Hotel Hof Galerie

My room was spacious and yet very cozy. The rest of the hotel has an atmosphere similar to a bed & breakfast. The breakfast was awesome! It was served in a lovely decorated room and there was plenty to choose from. I wish I could have this choice every morning! Next to the breakfast room is a lounge with a fireplace. A few drinks were standing on a cupboard - all you do is leave your room number or name and anything you take gets added to your bill. I visited Sylt in December and it was quite cold, but that didn't matter much as it was nice to come back "home" and have a cup of tea in front of the fireplace. With only about 20 rooms, Hof Galerie is not a tourist bunker. The staff is friendly and helpful.
