Be Hostels
Great central location, very friendly, English speaking staff, free WiFi and computers in the common area and very clean. As a solo traveling woman who values my privacy and security, I have stayed in the single rooms which have tv’s, private balconies and a/c. The shared bathrooms are the cleanest and most modern of any hostel's I have visited in Europe. There are also apartments with private bathrooms and dorm rooms, too. I have been to Barcelona twice and stayed at two locations. When I return to Spain, I will stay here again and will always recommend it. I am older, but I didn’t feel like it was a “party hostel.” It was usually quiet and when it wasn’t, ear plugs and the tv on low worked well for sleeping.

Meeting Point Hostels
Not a typical party hostel, and that's what I liked. It's a quite and cosy place to relax after a long day of touring and to sleep well. The hostel staff are very friendly, they do their best to help and give full information about the city. The place seemed to me very safe (entrance door, rooms doors and lockers, everything is functioning with electronic keys). I stayed in a female-only dormitory with en suite bathroom (which, by the way, was 'hotel-like' quality). Dorms have locker, metal bunk beds, power sockets, personal shelves and reading lights for each bed. Shared kitchen was a little bit small, but very well equipped. I loved their outdoor terrace, very spacious and nicely decorated. The common room was also good enough (TV, comfy sofas, bean bag chairs, books, table games, guests computers, foosball and a laptop-friendly work space). The hostel is located in a residential area, which is a bit far away from the city centre, but it's very close to the main train station of Barcelona (Sants) and has good transport links. In the neighbourhood you will find many economy priced restaurants and cafes. So I think it is a good choice for travellers, who are not looking for parties and night life, and just want a quieter environment for an affordable price.

Mana Mana Hostel
Really friendly, owned by a young Spanish/Polish couple who work very hard. Has a beautiful rooftop terrace where I met lots of lovely people, including several other solo travelers. Close to one of the main shopping streets and only 5 minutes from the beach. It’s perfect for some R&R, but you also might want to take a boat trip, SCUBA dive, take in a castle ruin, or head out to one of the 3 beaches all of which are pretty easy to get to. I went initially planning on stopping for 3 nights, 4 max but instead stayed for 5. Had a fantastic time there! It’s aimed at young people, and there are some nice bars nearby. But it’s not a big party place. I ended up starting the night on the rooftop terrace with friends, going to a bar or two and then finishing the night with a quiet drink on the moonlit beach. Lovely! Also there’s a decent kitchen for cooking in. It also has a washing machine and a computer along with WiFi. It’s very clean, and has good-sized lockers to put all your stuff in. Rooms vary in size to accommodate from 4 to 6 people, I believe.

El Granado Hostel
El Granado is centrally located, 5 minutes from the Cathedral and we could walk anywhere we needed to go to get to buses, the train station, restaurants, nightlife and the city’s historic attractions. The staff was particularly impressive with their attentiveness to guests and knowledge of the city. The building itself is more like a huge home, where guests are spread out in different parts of it. We felt like we had the place to ourselves most of the time. We weren’t the only people staying there but fellow guests were quiet and courteous and it was a great place to relax.
