Ernest Hemingway, possibly the most well-known 20th century American writer, was all about living and documenting the journey. He loved to travel, and spent time living in Spain, France, and Cuba. His book, Green Hills of Africa is regarded as one of the great travelogues.
In some ways, he may be even more famous for his personality and exploits than his writing. When he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1954, Time magazine described him as “a globe-trotting expert on bullfights, booze, women, wars, big game hunting, deep sea fishing, and courage.” Both his life and his writing were definitely about the journey.
