If you’re already using apps like OpenTable or Yelp to book your restaurant reservations, why would you want to add another one? One word: discounts! Unlike those apps, reservations made through TheFork can get you up to 50% off your bill. Have I convinced you to check it out?
While TheFork is currently limited mainly to restaurants in Europe and Australia, it was recently acquired by TripAdvisor and has been growing exponentially since that acquisition. It now boasts over 60,000 dining spots on its menu, and may just pop into your neighborhood soon.
My favorite feature of the app is that they make redeeming your discount easy and shame-free. Unlike a Groupon deal where you have to announce your Groupon to your server–and the rest of the world–in the hopes that they will accept your online deal, any eligible discounts are applied automatically to your bill as long as you make your reservation using TheFork. No more uncomfortable moments as you decide whether or not to redeem your Groupon deal in a fancy restaurant, while out with others, or (gasp!) while on a date.
The app conveniently displays all the available deals, so you can select your dining options based not just on your taste buds, but also on your wallet.
One caveat: while the app has high (4.8 and 4.9 out of 5) ratings on Google Play and the App Store respectively, some users have reported their reservations being confirmed on the app, then finding the restaurant closed or without a record of their booking on arrival. To avoid disappointment, we'd recommend a quick call or email to the restaurant to confirm your booking once you've made it on the app.
Finally, TheFork has a loyalty program to allow you to earn extra discounts as you dine.
The app works on both iPhones and Androids. So, incorporate it into your next trip and bon appetit!
